I watched the Theo Paphitis documentary last night, how did he buy a company for £1 and where?

Hey guys, last night I watched Theo Paphitis’ documentary. He said that he made his millions, buying companies and making them profitable. Where do you go to buy these companies? And how do you pay?

The company was La Senza, an ownbranded lingerie retailer. Bought for £1 in 1999 and sold to Lion Capital.
Obviously the company was full of debt when Leo bought it, the £1 just being a nominal amount for the accountants. I doubt if the £1 was actually paid as such. Not so sure he can turn round Milwall!
